President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declared on Saturday that the country will not cede an inch of its territory amid the current geopolitical tension, promising to work with the nation's allies to ensure the safety of Filipinos.
Speaking during the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Alumni Homecoming 2023 in Baguio City, President Marcos said that the country has seen heightened geopolitical tensions that threaten the security and stability of the country, the region, and the world. He stated that the country will continue to uphold its territorial integrity and sovereignty in accordance with the Constitution and international law.
"The current operating environment is uncertain and grows increasingly complex," President Marcos said. "As we work on translating these investments into material benefits for our people, we must ensure that we continue to preserve the security and the safety of our nation."
The Commander-in-Chief also noted that his administration has been working hard to steer the country towards a high-growth trajectory in the past seven months. He congratulated this year's PMA alumni awardees for their exemplary performance and urged them to let their exemplary work be "emulated and ignite a desire for service in our young cadets."
President Marcos also thanked the PMA alumni for their contributions to nation-building, saying that his government will continue to develop the country and aspire for better lives for the Filipino people in honor of those who have sacrificed their lives for the welfare of the nation.
The President emphasized that the Philippines must pursue a path of prosperity that contributes to goals shared with the international community. He said that the country has cemented its bilateral relations with allies, partners, and friends, and must work with its neighbors to secure the safety and security of its peoples.
The PMA, established in the 1930s, has produced selfless individuals who offered their lives to defend the country and preserve the democratic ideals and freedoms that Filipinos enjoy today, President Marcos said.
In his closing remarks, the President urged the alumni to stay true to the ideals and values they have gained from the Academy, such as integrity, service before self, and professionalism, that everyone should innately possess as public servants. He said that he hopes the alumni continue to lead a life of service beyond self and inspire young cadets to become leaders of character.
