In his address during the 30th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders’ Meeting in San Francisco, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. declared the Philippines' preparedness to embrace Artificial Intelligence (AI) and urged global technology companies and venture capitalists to join hands in steering the nation towards a technological revolution.
President Marcos, attending the APEC summit, seized the opportunity to engage with technology investors in a roundtable meeting organized by NightDragon CEO David Dewalt, Bain and Company CEO Emmanuel Maceda, and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
He emphasized the Philippines' commitment to augmenting the skills of its workforce through the National AI Strategy, positioning the country as a Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence.
Addressing the attendees, including prominent figures like Microsoft Managing Director Michelle Gonzalez and HP CEO Enrique Lores, President Marcos outlined the Philippines' vision for AI integration. He expressed confidence that AI could uplift Filipino lives, enhance enterprise productivity, and boost economic competitiveness.
The President highlighted the remarkable economic growth of the Philippines, recording a 7.6 percent increase in GDP in 2022—the highest since 1976. Acknowledging the role of private sector partnerships, Marcos credited the administration's dedication to fostering a business ecosystem that is not only conducive but also competitive and innovative.
President Marcos underscored the government's commitment to facilitating foreign investment, citing fiscal incentives and streamlined business processes. He invited current and potential partners to envision a future where the Philippine workforce is empowered, skilled, and ready to navigate the digital age.
As the meeting delved into the AI revolution, President Marcos stressed the need for upskilling and training to meet the evolving talent demands of various industries in the Philippines.
