In a recent Pulse Asia survey conducted from December 3-7, 2023, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. experienced a notable increase in both trust and approval ratings among Filipinos. The results, released on Monday, showed a 3-point surge in approval, with 68 percent of respondents expressing approval for Marcos' performance, up from 65 percent in September 2023.

Moreover, the survey highlighted an increase in trust, as 73 percent of Filipinos now trust Marcos, marking a 2-percentage point improvement since the last poll in September.

Vice President Sara Duterte also witnessed a marginal increase in her approval score, rising from 74 percent to 73 percent at the national level. Notably, her overall trust score showed a more significant increase, climbing by 3 points from 75 percent in September to 78 percent in December.

According to Pulse Asia, both the President and the Vice President enjoy majority approval scores across various areas (62 percent to 74 percent) and classes (61 percent to 93 percent), showcasing broad support from the Filipino population.

The survey indicated that only 9 percent disapproved of President Marcos' performance, while 22 percent remained undecided. Vice President Duterte faced an 8 percent disapproval rating, with 18 percent uncertain about her performance.

Pulse Asia emphasized that the trust ratings for the President and the Vice President remained consistently high, with minimal changes observed between September 2023 and December 2023, both nationally and across subgroupings.

In terms of the administration's handling of national issues, the survey revealed majority approval ratings, including 78 percent for protecting overseas Filipino workers, 76 percent for aiding calamity-hit areas, 62 percent for protecting the environment, 61 percent for promoting peace and defending territorial integrity, 56 percent for fighting criminality, and 51 percent for enforcing the rule of law.

While the survey reported generally positive sentiments, it also highlighted a pressing concern—72 percent of Filipino adults identified controlling inflation as an urgent national issue that needs attention.

Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Speaker Martin Romualdez experienced modest fluctuations in their approval ratings. Zubiri's approval rating slightly dropped from 50 percent in September to 49 percent in December, while Romualdez faced a 2-point decline from 41 percent to 39 percent during the same period.

Despite these variations, Pulse Asia noted that the performance ratings of government officials remained relatively constant throughout the period from September 2023 to December 2023, both nationally and across different areas and classes.

The survey, based on face-to-face interviews with a sample of 1,200 representative adults aged 18 and above, carries a ± 2.8 percent error margin at the 95 percent confidence level.
