During the inaugural Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Local Legislative General Assembly in Davao City, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. expressed the significance of addressing the Mindanao issue as a collective concern for the entire Philippines.
Despite his imminent departure for San Francisco, California, the President emphasized attending the assembly, highlighting its importance not only for BARMM but for the nation as a whole.
President Marcos underscored his stance, stating, "I have never recognized a Mindanao problem. Whatever problem is in Mindanao is a Philippine problem."
He assured the government's commitment to ensuring the success of BARMM, citing the activation of all seven mechanisms of the Inter-governmental Relations Body.
These mechanisms are crucial foundations for policies, laws, and regulations, serving as a framework for the Parliament's decisions and the Executive's execution.
Addressing the need for robust institutions, President Marcos articulated the goal of avoiding dependency on specific groups or individuals.
He emphasized the importance of institutionalizing BARMM's programs and initiatives, a process aimed at creating enduring structures resilient to political changes.
"This is the beginning of that process of creating the institutions that are necessary to avoid dependency on one group or certain individuals," the President declared.
He asserted that this effort extends beyond BARMM, with the national government endorsing and promoting similar initiatives to strengthen institutions nationwide.
President Marcos concluded by highlighting the enhanced cooperation, coordination, and convergence between the National and Bangsamoro governments, signaling a collaborative approach to address the challenges and foster a safe, progressive, and resilient future for the region and the entire country.
