PCG Recovers Capsized Fishing Vessel, FB Dearyn
Screengrab from PCG
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has successfully recovered the capsized fishing vessel, FB Dearyn, which collided with the foreign vessel MV Pacific Anna on October 2, 2023, 180 nautical miles west of Agno, Pangasinan.

The recovery operation was led by the Task Force Kaligtasan sa Karagatan (TF KsK) under the command of Vice Admiral Joseph M Coyme.

PCG's Cessna Caravan (PCG 2801) conducted an aerial survey on October 7, confirming the location of the sunken vessel. On October 8, 2023, BRP Malapascua (MRRV-4403) was dispatched to secure FB Dearyn at its last known position, paving the way for the salvage operations.

Given the PCG's limited salvage capabilities, Coyme sought assistance from the Harbor Star Salvaging Company. Under a collaborative agreement, the company deployed their tugboat, MT Avior, and skilled crew to support the PCG in the salvage efforts.

On October 11, 2023, FB Dearyn was successfully refloated and towed to Subic, Zambales. The six-day journey concluded late in the evening on October 15, 2023.

With FB Dearyn now retrieved, the Philippine National Police (PNP) forensics team can conduct a comprehensive examination, bolstering the case against the Marshall Flag vessel.

Admiral Artemio Abu, Commandant of the PCG, expressed his commendation for the collaborative efforts of all entities involved in this operation.
