The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) carried out the destruction of a massive haul of narcotics, led by Deputy Director General for Operations Assistant Secretary Renato Gumban.

A total of 724 kilograms of Methamphetamine Hydrochloride, commonly known as shabu, took center stage in the disposal, marking a significant blow to the illicit drug trade. The total estimated value of the destroyed drugs and controlled precursors and essential chemicals (CPECs) reached P4.51 Billion Pesos.

The stockpile, weighing 1,288,799.7371 grams, included a notable 530 kilograms (529,704.6 grams) of shabu previously seized by the National Bureau of Investigation in Mexico, Pampanga, during an operation in September of the preceding year.

Apart from the shabu, the array of illegal substances encompassed 535,352.3195 grams of marijuana, 3,219.0132 grams of MDMA or ecstasy, and 7,423.58 grams of cocaine. These illicit items were accumulated through various anti-drug operations conducted by PDEA in collaboration with law enforcement and military units.

The destruction process employed thermal decomposition or thermolysis, subjecting the seized substances to temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees centigrade. This ensured the complete breakdown of all dangerous drugs, rendering them impossible to reconstitute.

The crucial operation witnessed the participation of key representatives from the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB), Cavite City Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office, local officials of Barangay Aguado, Trece Martires City, as well as members from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other law enforcement agencies.
