Petro Gazz Angels continued their dominance over Cignal HD Spikers with a three-set victory in the Premier Volleyball League All Filipino Conference at Philsports Arena in Pasig Saturday.

Despite struggling in the opening set, the Angels went on to win 28-26, 25-18, 25-13.

This win was important for the Angels, who suffered a defeat in their opening game against Creamline Cool Smashers last February 4. However, they bounced back with a win against Choco Mucho Flying Titans on February 9.

Their victory over the HD Spikers proves that the team is in good form and determined to succeed in a tough single round-robin eliminations among nine teams of equal strength.

Remy Palma was the star player for Petro Gazz, scoring 15 points, including 10 on attacks in various fashions, and finishing with 4 blocks. Djanel Cheng tossed 19 excellent sets, while Cienne Cruz and Jellie Tempiatura recorded 14 excellent receptions and 11 excellent digs, respectively. Ces Molina scored 11 points for Cignal, while Rachel Anne Daquis had nine markers.

The Angels blew three set points in the opener, 24-21, but they managed to win the set after Soltones fired a crosscourt hit and Cignal’s Gel Cayuna’s 1-2 play backfired as it went wide. Petro Gazz unloaded 45 kills against Cignal’s 33 and capitalized on the HD Spikers’ mistakes, scoring 23 points while giving up only 14.

In the third set, the HD Spikers kept the score close in the early going, but the Angels uncorked a 9-1 run to go up, 16-8. They then put to naught the former’s back-to-back hits that closed the game at six with another series of assaults, leading to a 21-13 lead. Daquis’ attack that hit the antenna and Cignal’s net violation accounted for the Angels’ last two points.
