Under the leadership of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista and the winning contractors from Indonesia and Australia, the contract for the project was signed.
"Today, we sign the contract for three contract packages with two joint venture companies who must be able to construct a combined length of 14.9 kilometers of elevated and ground-level rail tracks, including six modern train stations," Secretary Bautista said.
The DOTr said that once completed, the project will be capable of carrying over 800,000 passengers per day and will reduce travel time to just two hours, compared to the current 4.5 hours.
