Pasay City, Philippines - In a significant development in the country's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippine Government, through the Department of Health (DOH), received a generous donation of more than 390,000 doses of bivalent vaccines from the Lithuanian government.

The vaccines arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 on the evening of June 3, 2023.

The event was attended by high-ranking officials from both the Philippine and Lithuanian governments. Among the DOH officials present were Management Services Team (MST) Assistant Secretary Dr. Leonita Gorgolon and representatives from various DOH offices.

Also in attendance were the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Lithuania, Ms. Julia Netta Vildzius Peña, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the European Union to the Philippines, Dr. Ana-Isabel Sanchez-Ruiz.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and Bureau of Customs (BOC) were also represented during the ceremony.

The negotiation process for the vaccine donation began in August 2022 and was finalized when the Lithuanian Government offered the vaccines in January 2023. President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. played a crucial role in expediting the necessary processes and permits to ensure the smooth arrival of the vaccines.

Expressing her gratitude, Officer-in-Charge Health Secretary Dr. Maria Rosario Singh-Vergeire stated, "It is with great pleasure that we have received such generous donations from the Lithuanian Government, and our sincerest gratitude goes to our partner agencies for joining hands with the DOH to secure a bountiful future. We believe that by ensuring sufficient protection against the COVID-19 virus, we can achieve a healthier Philippines.

We urge every eligible individual, Juan and Juana, to seize the opportunity for longer and stronger protection by getting vaccinated against COVID-19. Together, let us move towards a healthier Pilipinas."

The DOH has issued Department Memorandum (DM) No. 2023-0178, which provides guidance on the management and administration of the donated bivalent vaccines. Those seeking more information regarding the guidelines can refer to the official document at bit.ly/DM_2023-0178.
