President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. affirmed on Thursday that the Philippines will maintain its collaboration with China in order to ensure regional peace and stability, particularly in the West Philippine Sea.

The President emphasized the importance of vibrant trade and economic activity between the two countries. When questioned by reporters about the current state of the Philippines-China relationship under his administration, President Marcos expressed his commitment to nurturing the friendship, partnership, and longstanding ties established since 1974 and 1975.

During an interview at the Manila Hotel after attending the Award for Promoting Philippines-China Understanding (APPCU) Award Ceremony, President Marcos stated, "It is a continuing search to find solutions to the challenges that we face jointly with China. Now, of course, as to the differences between China and the Philippines, certainly they exist but it is not something that will define our relationship."

President Marcos emphasized that China is viewed as a partner in efforts to maintain peace and vibrant regional trade. He further mentioned that the process of strengthening the relationship between the two countries has already begun, citing his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in January. During their meeting, they developed strategies for enhanced communication and understanding regarding fishing grounds.

Highlighting the role of the private sector in fostering a stronger relationship, President Marcos acknowledged the opportunities extended by China to Filipino corporations. He emphasized that despite existing challenges, the relationship between the two nations will not be defined solely by their differences but by common areas of interest, shared beliefs, and cultural similarities.

President Marcos expressed optimism about the potential for further growth in the Philippines-China relationship, stating, "I think that is a very fertile ground to build, to plant our relationship and keep it growing." He affirmed the ongoing efforts to strengthen ties with China and hinted at future updates on progress made in this regard.
