The Philippine military and its counterparts from the United States and Australia launched air assault operations in Ilocos Norte.
The military exercise was carried out using two U.S. Marine Corps MV-22 Ospreys and two Australian Army MRH-90 Taipan helicopters. The aircraft were flown by U.S. and Australian pilots with Philippine Army soldiers serving as the air assault team who rappelled down from the helicopters.
It allowed the Philippine Army soldiers to learn from their U.S. and Australian counterparts in terms of tactics, techniques, and procedures used in air assault operations. It also provided an opportunity for the Philippine Army to showcase its capabilities and enhance its readiness to respond to any potential threat.
During the exercise, U.S. Army and Australian Defence Force soldiers provided support to the Philippine Army soldiers, sharing their knowledge and expertise in areas such as communications, medical support, and logistics.
The exercise was conducted in a safe and controlled environment, with strict adherence to safety protocols and guidelines. The Philippine Army expressed gratitude to their U.S. and Australian counterparts for their participation and contribution to the success of the exercise. Exercise Balikatan has been held annually since 1981. It is a testament to the strong and enduring partnership between the Philippines, the U.S., and Australia in promoting regional security and stability.
