The Philippine National Police (PNP), under the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management Crime Research Analysis Center (CRAC), unveiled its annual crime report on September 7, 2023, providing a comparison of crime statistics for the period spanning January 1 to September 5, 2022, and 2023. The report reveals an 8.80% decrease in the Index Crime Volume, translating to a reduction of 2,514 cases, from 28,558 cases in 2022 to 26,044 cases in 2023.

The top three prevalent crimes for both years remained consistent, with rape, theft, and physical injury retaining their positions.

The report indicates that while Homicide cases experienced a slight 0.42% increase in 2023, other Focus Crimes such as Murder, Physical Injury, Rape, Robbery, Theft, and Carnapping registered a substantial 8.79% decline. These statistics demonstrate an improvement in the safety and security of Filipinos.

Commending the efforts of the police force, PNP Chief PGen Benjamin Acorda Jr., stated, "I am pleased to see the continuing trends in our crime statistics. The decrease in crime rates reflects the work and dedication of our officers and the effectiveness of our police interventions and strategies. However, we will not become complacent. We will continue to strive for peace and security for the Filipino people."

With the holiday season approaching, Acorda has issued instructions to all Regional Directors to intensify their campaign against criminality, aiming to thwart potential street crimes during this festive period.
