Philippine Security Agencies Unite To Ensure Smooth And Secure Barangay And Sangguniang Kabataan Elections

In a significant display of collaborative strength, the Philippine National Police (PNP), in partnership with the Commission on Elections (Comelec), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and other deputized agencies, convened a Security Command Conference on August 22, 2023. Held at Camp BGen Rafael T Crame in Quezon City, the conference focused on fortifying preparations for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections slated for October 30, 2023.

High-ranking officials, including Police General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., Chief PNP, and Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia, participated in the conference. Joined by key figures from the AFP and PCG, these officials engaged in comprehensive discussions to craft robust strategies aimed at ensuring a seamless and secure electoral process.

Police General Benjamin C. Acorda Jr., PNP Chief, affirmed the commitment of the PNP to uphold the integrity of the forthcoming elections. He emphasized, "We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the upcoming elections and providing a safe environment for all citizens to exercise their right to vote."

The election period, commencing on August 28, 2023, will witness heightened police presence across the nation, with the PNP implementing checkpoints to maintain law and order. A gun ban will concurrently be in effect until November 29, 2023, contributing to public safety and minimizing potential security risks.

Recognizing the pivotal role of election-related peace and security measures, the PNP, along with its collaborative partners, initiated joint efforts to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process. The PNP assured the public of unwavering vigilance against illicit activities such as vote buying.

Central to their approach is the assurance of respectful and courteous treatment during checkpoint inspections. The PNP underscored its commitment to carry out these inspections in a professional and non-disruptive manner, respecting the rights of individuals.

With the aim of establishing an impartial and honest election, the PNP pledged to deploy a substantial number of personnel across the nation. This concerted endeavor seeks to foster an environment where citizens can freely exercise their voting rights devoid of apprehension or coercion.

Acorda further stated, "The PNP, in close cooperation with Comelec, AFP, and PCG, remains resolute in its dedication to upholding democratic principles and safeguarding the rights of the Filipino people." As the election process unfolds, the combined commitment of these agencies is poised to contribute to a successful and tranquil Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on October 30, 2023.
