Philippines Celebrates 3 Million International Visitor Arrivals Milestone In 2023

In an impressive achievement for the Philippines' tourism sector, the country has surpassed the 3 million international visitor arrivals mark as of July 19, 2023, according to the Department of Tourism (DOT).
The latest data from the DOT revealed a total of 3,000,079 international visitor arrivals from January 1 to July 19, 2023. This milestone marks a significant increase in inbound tourism, with a noteworthy surge in revenue compared to the same period last year. The country's inbound tourism receipts from January 1 to June 30, 2023, have climbed to a staggering P212,467,522,100.14. This amount is an impressive 502.02 percent higher than the tourism revenue generated from the same period in the previous year, which amounted to P35,292,495,457.14.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed her delight at the record-breaking numbers, stating, "We are glad to report that in roughly seven months, we have already achieved the 3 million international visitor arrivals milestone, reflecting continued robust recovery and the gains of the Marcos Administration towards the resurgence of Philippine tourism."
Frasco continued, "Tourism provides employment and livelihood to millions of Filipinos. We are grateful for the renewed interest in the Philippines, which offers a multitude of reasons to love travel across our islands. We thank as well our fellow Filipinos abroad who are choosing to travel back home. We thank all our loyal foreign guests who continuously love to travel and explore the gains of the Marcos Administration."
Breaking down the figures, 91.36 percent, or 2,740,802 visitors, are foreign tourists, while the remaining 8.64 percent, or 259,277, are overseas Filipinos.
South Korea emerged as the leading source market, contributing almost a quarter of the total international visitors, with 741,658 arrivals (24.72 percent). The United States of America secured the second spot with 550,569 arrivals (18.35 percent), followed by Australia with 146,062 arrivals (4.87 percent), Japan with 143,227 arrivals (4.77 percent), and Canada with 132,018 arrivals (4.40 percent).
Other significant sources of international visitors included China with 129,077 arrivals (4.30 percent), Taiwan with 104,211 arrivals (3.47 percent), United Kingdom with 85,847 arrivals (2.86 percent), Singapore with 81,656 arrivals (2.72 percent), and Malaysia with 54,411 arrivals (1.81 percent).
With these positive trends, the Philippines tourism industry remains optimistic about the future, anticipating continued growth and recovery as global travel continues to rebound. As the country showcases its natural beauty, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality, it looks forward to welcoming even more travelers in the coming months.
