In a recent dialogue with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), PISTON, a transport group, expressed vehement concern over the government's apparent disregard for the looming livelihood crisis and commuter inconvenience. The discussion became heated, marked by accusations of deceit, manipulation, and a propensity for falsehoods.
The LTFRB argued that the decision to postpone the December 31 deadline was beyond its control, referencing statements attributed to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
According to PISTON, contrary to the government's claims, it is evident that the administration remains indifferent to the plight of thousands facing job losses in January 2024.
The government is accused of distorting the truth, with numerous jeepneys and UV Express units yet to undergo consolidation.
They added that the President's assertion that 70% of Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) have consolidated is contradicted by the reality that over 140,000 drivers and 60,000 operators nationwide are set to lose their livelihoods due to a flawed and burdensome consolidation process.
