PLDT High Speed Hitters emerged victorious over Akari in a thrilling encounter at the 2023 PVL All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday. Despite Akari's strong surge in the second set, PLDT was able to dominate in the next and reassert their might in the fourth set to win the game 25-14, 21-25, 25-12, 25-15.
The victory was PLDT's fourth straight win, and they now join F2 Logistics at the top of the league standings with a 4-1 record. This strong start has helped them firm up their position in the race for the semifinals, as they look to improve on their fifth-place finish from last year's season-opening conference.
Rhea Dimaculangan played a vital role in PLDT's balanced offensive attack, with 22 excellent sets and three points. Michelle Morente led the scoring with 14 points, while Dell Palomata and Mika Reyes contributed 13 and 10 points, respectively.
Jovie Prado's all-around game was also impressive, with eight points, 14 excellent digs, and 10 excellent receptions, making a pivotal contribution to the team's success.
On the other hand, Akari struggled to match PLDT's intensity, with only Dindin Santiago-Manabat managing to reach double digits with 10 points. Eli Soyud and Trisha Genesis contributed seven points each, but it wasn't enough to prevent the team from dropping to 1-4, tying with the Cignal HD Spikers.
Despite the defeat, Akari still has a chance to bounce back in their remaining games, while PLDT will look to build on their impressive start and continue their pursuit of a strong finish in the league.
