PNP Reports Significant Decrease In Focus Crimes For First Half Of 2023

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday (July 17,2023) said that the country witnessed a substantial decrease in eight focus crimes during the period of January to June this year. According to the latest data provided by the PNP's Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System (CIRAS), the total number of focus crimes dropped significantly, highlighting the effectiveness of crime prevention and suppression strategies implemented by the PNP.
Compared to the same period last year, the total number of focus crimes from January to June in 2023 decreased from 20,657 cases to 18,560 cases, marking a noteworthy decline of 2,097 cases or 10.15%. Furthermore, the average Focus Crimes Monthly Crime Rate witnessed a decline of 10.13%, dropping from 3.06 in 2022 to 2.75 in 2023.
Among the focus crimes, murder saw a decrease of 1.89%, physical injury dropped by 20.01%, theft decreased by 9.33%, and rape declined by 18.19%. While there was a slight increase in homicide and robbery cases, notable reductions were observed in carnapping incidents.
PNP Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr expressed his appreciation for the remarkable efforts of the PNP personnel in achieving this significant reduction in “focus crimes”. He commended their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the public.
Acorda attributed the success to the PNP's highly effective crime prevention and suppression strategies and highlighted the outstanding collaboration with the community. He expressed his pride in the PNP personnel who demonstrated exceptional courage and determination in combating criminal activities, emphasizing that the substantial decrease in focus crimes is a clear indication of the tangible results in safeguarding communities.
