For the first time in six years, the Philippine National Railways (PNR) train service departed from Ligao Station in Albay to Naga Station in Camarines Sur at 5:30 am on July 31.

The bell rang six times at Naga and Ligao stations, signaling the end of the six-year suspension of the 67-kilometer rail route.

Nearly a hundred passengers boarded the train at nine stations and flag stops: Naga, Pili, Baao, Iriga, Bato, Matacon, Polangui, Oas, and Ligao.

PNR Engineering Department manager, Engr. Jaypee Relleve, welcomed the passengers from Albay and Camarines Sur.

In a statement, Engr. Relleve thanked the passengers who boarded the first train from Ligao and encouraged the people of Camarines Sur and Albay to support the PNR service.

Starting today, the PNR will operate its first trip from Ligao to Naga at 5:30 am daily, followed by the second trip from Naga to Ligao at 5:30 pm.

According to PNR management, if passenger demand increases, additional trips will be added to the route.

The travel time from Ligao to Naga and vice versa, using a Diesel Hydraulic Locomotive (DHL) with five passenger coaches capable of carrying over 1.3 million passengers, is estimated to take two hours and 11 minutes.

The fare starts at 15 pesos for the first station and reaches 105 pesos for the last station of the train.

Students, senior citizens, and PWDs will benefit from a 20% discount on PNR fares.

Although wearing face masks on public transportation is voluntary, eating and drinking inside the trains are still prohibited for a safer and more comfortable PNR journey.
