The Philippine National Railways (PNR) trains have recommenced operations on the 101-kilometer Naga-Legazpi-Naga route in the Bicol Region, marking the end of a six-year hiatus.
PNR General Manager Jeremy S. Regino expressed gratitude to the Department of Transportation (DOTr), led by Secretary Jaime J. Bautista, for their substantial support in reopening the route, which now boasts four daily trips.
The inaugural journey departed Naga City at 5:38 AM on Dec. 27, heading towards Legazpi City, while the return trip commenced at 5:45 AM from Legazpi City to Naga City.
In the afternoons, the trip from Naga to Legazpi departs at precisely 5:30 PM, with the return journey from Legazpi to Naga scheduled for 5:47 PM.
Regino encourages Bicolanos to embrace the PNR service, emphasizing its safety, comfort, efficiency, and affordability. The estimated one-way travel time along the route, spanning several towns in Camarines Sur and Albay, is three hours and four minutes.
PNR stations along the route include Naga, Pili, Iriga, Polangui, Ligao, Travesia, Daraga, and Legazpi. Additionally, flag stops are situated in Baao, Lourdes, Bato, Matacon, Oas, Bagtang, Washington Drive, and Capantawan.
Standard fares range from a minimum of ₱15.00 to a maximum of ₱155.00, depending on the passenger's final destination. Students, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and senior citizens enjoy a 20% discount, presenting their respective IDs.
Regino urges PNR travelers to uphold cleanliness and orderliness within the trains and at stations and flag stops, enhancing the overall travel experience on the Naga-Legazpi-Naga route.
The line was suspended in April 2017 due to a shortage of train coaches and locomotives.
