President Joe Biden has marked the one-year anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine with a visit to Kyiv to reaffirm the United States’ unwavering support for Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The President met with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and his team to discuss support for the country, including the delivery of critical equipment to help protect the Ukrainian people from aerial bombardments.

During the meeting, President Biden announced the delivery of artillery ammunition, anti-armor systems, and air surveillance radars to Ukraine. He also revealed that the United States would be announcing additional sanctions against elites and companies that are trying to evade or backfill Russia’s war machine later this week.

The President emphasized that the United States has built a coalition of nations from the Atlantic to the Pacific to help defend Ukraine with unprecedented military, economic, and humanitarian support, and that support will continue.

President Biden’s visit to Ukraine is part of a broader trip to Europe, which will also include a meeting with Polish President Duda and the leaders of the United States’ Eastern Flank Allies. During his time in Poland, President Biden will deliver remarks on how the United States will continue to rally the world to support the people of Ukraine and the core values of human rights and dignity in the UN Charter that unite us worldwide.

In his remarks, President Biden emphasized that when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched his invasion of Ukraine nearly one year ago, he believed Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. But, as the President noted, Putin was dead wrong.
