President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. met with Chinese Ambassador Huang Xilian Tuesday to discuss the situation between China and the Philippine Coast Guard and Filipino fishermen in the West Philippine Sea.

The meeting was closely monitored by other countries in the region, including Japan, Australia, and Canada, who have expressed their support for the Philippines and their concerns over China's actions in the West Philippine Sea.

The Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines released a statement expressing "serious concerns about dangerous behavior against PH vessels," and called for all states to "respect maritime order based on international law, in particular UNCLOS, and recall that the 2016 Arbitral Award is final and legally binding."

The Australian Ambassador to the Philippines also shared these concerns, calling for "peace, stability and respect for international law in the South China Sea, a vital international waterway."

The Canadian Ambassador to the Philippines underscored Canada's "firm & unwavering support for the Philippines in the face of coercive actions of the People’s Republic of China in the South China Sea."

He stated that recent actions that disrupted the lawful operations of Philippine vessels off the coast of the Philippines are in violation of international law and contrary to the maintenance of regional peace and stability, and the rules-based international order.
