In a recent gathering at the Malacañan Palace, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Council of Sergeants Major of his administration's unwavering commitment to their welfare and that of their families.
The occasion marked the annual traditional dinner for the AFP Council of Sergeants Major, where the President reiterated his support for the men and women who form the “backbone of the country's military force.”
During his speech at the event, President Marcos commended the dedication and hard work of the enlisted personnel, emphasizing that they make up 90 percent of the troops and play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations and institutional activities of the AFP.
He acknowledged their specialized abilities and noted that their contributions are essential for the defense of the state, sovereignty, and patrimony.
President Marcos also highlighted the role of Sergeants Major as the most senior, experienced, and seasoned individuals among the enlisted personnel. They play a pivotal role in implementing plans and strategies on the ground. Additionally, they help maintain the strong and unbreakable bonds between AFP officials and the troops, which, in turn, influence the performance of enlisted personnel within their respective units.
The President expressed his gratitude for the efforts of the Sergeants Major in staying attuned to the needs of Filipino troops across the country and in boosting their morale and welfare. He also commended their engagement with counterparts from other countries, such as the United States, to discuss important topics, including the proposal for a mutually agreed Professional Development Program in support of the Philippines-United States Mutual Defense Treaty.
The President's speech took place during the 27th Non-Commissioned Officers Week and the 54th Founding Anniversary of the Office of the AFP Sergeant Major, with around 180 guests from the AFP, the Department of National Defense, and the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Military and Police Affairs in attendance.
President Marcos assured those present that his administration would remain steadfast in transforming and modernizing the AFP into a world-class force that garners respect from its counterparts and stands as a source of national pride.
