In a recent phone interview with PTV News, PBGen. Nicolas Torre III, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief, has confirmed his intention to request a transfer from his current position as QCPD director.

Torre stated that his decision comes in response to the public's concerns and to avoid any perceived interference in the ongoing investigation of a viral road rage incident.

The incident involved a motorist and an unarmed cyclist, and Torre believes that stepping aside from his role is the appropriate course of action to maintain the investigation's integrity.

Senate Resolution Urges Probe into Viral Road Rage Incident

Senators Pia Cayetano and Juan Miguel Zubiri have jointly filed Senate Resolution No. 763, urging the Senate to conduct an inquiry into the widely circulated road rage incident that took place in Quezon City.

The incident, which featured an armed dismissed police officer and an unarmed cyclist, has sparked discussions about public order and safety. Senators Cayetano and Zubiri emphasized the importance of addressing such cases transparently and not allowing them to be overlooked.

Cayetano and Zubiri's resolution highlights the concept of 'road sharing,' a principle often neglected by motorists. The senators argue that all road users, including pedestrians, cyclists, commuters, motorcycle riders, and motorists, have an equal right to access public roads. The incident brings to light the need to promote road safety and to ensure that all individuals on the road are protected.

Cayetano and Zubiri underlined the Philippines' commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 11, which aims to establish safe, inclusive, sustainable, and progressive communities. The resolution emphasizes the significance of safeguarding cyclists by implementing physical barriers to enhance their safety.

This sentiment is echoed in Senate Bill No. 1290, also known as the Walkable and Bikeable Communities Act, authored by Senator Cayetano. The bill, which has passed the Senate, is awaiting consideration in the House of Representatives.
