Shellfish collected from multiple coastal areas in the Philippines have tested positive for Paralytic Shellfish Poison (PSP), commonly known as toxic red tide, surpassing the regulatory safety limits.
The affected regions include the coastal waters of Dauis and Tagbilaran City in Bohol, Dumanquillas Bay in Zamboanga del Sur, Lianga Bay in Surigao del Sur, and the coastal waters of San Benito in Surigao del Norte.
All types of shellfish and Acetes sp. (alamang) gathered from the specified areas are deemed unsafe for human consumption due to the presence of PSP.
However, there is reassurance regarding the safety of fish, squids, shrimps, and crabs, provided they are fresh and undergo thorough washing.
Additionally, it is recommended to remove internal organs such as gills and intestines before cooking to ensure safety.
