House Speaker Martin Romualdez expressed his support for the government's commitment to fostering national unity and peace through dialogue with rebel groups.

In a recent statement, Romualdez emphasized that the initiation of peace talks is a crucial step towards reconciliation, asserting that the government, backed by a strong military and public trust, is resolute in pursuing the nation's true progress.

"We support 100 percent our president's policy in the peace talks, and it is also perfect timing... Christmas is a time for peace, and that is what we all want," declared House Speaker Romualdez.
Romualdez clarified that the push for negotiations with rebels transcends political issues, framing it as an opportunity for healing and establishing order in the country.

In a parallel show of support, Vice President Sara Duterte underscored her backing for the government's efforts to promote peace. However, she emphasized that amnesty is not the path to peace, urging the continuation and strengthening of initiatives such as the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC).

"I support the steps to promote peace in the country because the fight against terrorists is deeply personal to me," stated VP Duterte, adding that amnesty should not be the avenue for peace. Instead, she called for the reinforcement of ongoing efforts against insurgency and the further empowerment of communities.

VP Duterte expressed reservations about the government's past agreements with the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP), describing them as deals with the devil. She urged a review of these proclamations and agreements, citing historical evidence of insincerity and betrayal by the rebel group.

"Apo BBM, sana po ay isaalang-alang natin ang ating mga komunidad na naging pugad ng mga terorista sa mahabang panahon na ngayon ay lumalaban na at tumutulong sa pamahalaan," appealed VP Duterte, honoring the memory of those who fell victim to attacks by the NPA-CPP-NDFP.

In conclusion, VP Duterte advocated for negotiating peace and reconciliation without capitulating to the enemies, asserting that meaningful development efforts in the Philippines can progress without compromising national interests.
