The San Miguel Beermen proved their worth as they dominated the winless NorthPort Batang Pier, 145-132, in the PBA Governors Cup on Wednesday.
After a disappointing loss against the Converge FiberXers last Saturday, the Beermen returned to winning form. Cameron Clark led the way with an impressive 44-point performance, complemented by nine rebounds and seven assists. June Mar Fajardo, who only had seven points in their previous game, redeemed himself with 29 markers and 12 boards. CJ Perez and Marcio Lassiter also contributed to the victory with 24 and 16 points, respectively.
Despite the efforts of Kevin Murphy, Arvin Tolentino, and Robert Bolick, the Batang Pier were unable to secure their first win. Murphy had a solid 39-point outing, while Tolentino erupted for 32 markers. Bolick recorded 16 points, 10 assists, and five rebounds. Paul Zamar and JM Calma also chipped in with double-digit contributions.
With this win, the Beermen maintained their co-leadership with the Tropang Giga, with both teams sporting identical 6-1 slates. Batang Pier, on the other hand, are still struggling to secure their first victory, with a 0-6 record in the tournament.
The Beermen will face the Barangay Ginebra Kings in their next game, which promises to be an exciting showdown. Meanwhile, the Batang Pier will need to regroup and try to turn their fortunes around in their upcoming matches against Terrafirma, Blackwater, Magnolia, Rain or Shine, and TNT.
