In a thrilling Game Six showdown at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the San Miguel Beermen orchestrated a stunning comeback to secure a 104-102 victory over the Magnolia Hotshots, reclaiming the PBA Commissioner's Cup championship.
The Beermen's dynamic trio of CJ Perez, Jericho Cruz, and Chris Ross ignited a late-game surge, erasing a nine-point deficit in the final 4:51 to snatch victory from the resilient Hotshots. The win marks San Miguel's 29th overall PBA championship and their fifth Commissioner's Cup title, solidifying their dominance in import-flavored tournaments.
Despite trailing for most of the game, the Beermen displayed resilience and determination, a quality praised by head coach Jorge Gallent, who celebrated his first finals as the team's head coach.
CJ Perez, held to four points in the first half, exploded for 24 points in the second half, including a crucial three-pointer that propelled San Miguel ahead at 103-99 with 48.7 seconds remaining. Perez's stellar performance earned him the Finals MVP award, completing a remarkable sweep after winning the Best Player of the Conference honors earlier – a feat last achieved by June Mar Fajardo in the previous season's Philippine Cup.
The Hotshots, led by a tough defensive effort and a standout performance from Paul Lee, seemed poised to force a rubber match, maintaining a double-digit lead early in the fourth quarter. However, the Beermen's relentless pursuit, coupled with timely three-pointers from Cruz, Ross, and Perez, swung the momentum in their favor, securing the championship.
San Miguel sealed the series 4-2 with victories in Games One, Two, and Five. In the clincher, Perez's 28-point spectacle, supported by Boatwright's all-around performance and contributions from Fajardo, Cruz, and Trollano, showcased the Beermen's championship pedigree.
