Senate Passes P100-Minimum Wage Hike And Eddie Garcia Law To Safeguard Movie Industry Workers

The Philippine Senate, led by Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada, has successfully steered the passage of two crucial bills on their third and final reading, aiming to uplift the conditions of Filipino workers.

Senate Bill No. 2534 has been approved, seeking to increase the daily pay of minimum wage earners in the private sector by P100. Senator Estrada emphasized the importance of recognizing the workforce as the lifeblood of enterprises, highlighting the role of a thriving economy in ensuring the well-being of its labor force.

Additionally, Senate Bill No. 2505, also known as the Eddie Garcia Law, has been introduced to protect the rights and welfare of workers in the movie and television industry. This legislation acknowledges the unique challenges faced by individuals in the entertainment sector and aims to provide comprehensive safeguards.

Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. expressed gratitude to his colleagues, especially Senate President Juan Miguel "Migz”. Zubiri, and Senator Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada, who authored and sponsored Senate Bill No. 2534, respectively. Revilla, who considers this measure as a personal advocacy since the beginning of his Senate tenure, pledged continued efforts to improve the living conditions of the Filipino people.

Senate President Zubiri commended fellow senators for responding to the call of Filipino laborers by passing Senate Bill No. 2534, also known as the P100-Daily Minimum Wage Increase Act. Zubiri urged counterparts in the House of Representatives to act promptly on the measure, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the needs of the working class.
