In response to the recent power interruptions in Panay Island, Senator Grace Poe has underscored the need for a thorough review of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) franchise.

With the operation and management of power transmission lines being a critical aspect of the country's energy infrastructure, Poe insists that Congress must exercise its powers to assess whether the NGCP is meeting its obligations effectively or if corrective actions are necessary.

"There should be no room for inefficiency, mismanagement, or blunders when it comes to a franchise as crucial as the NGCP's," Poe emphasized.

The recurring blackouts in Panay Island have raised concerns about the reliability of power delivery and highlighted the urgency of addressing any shortcomings in the NGCP's performance.

Poe stressed that the primary focus of the review is to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of cheap, stable, and accessible electricity to the people of Panay. "We need to see if the NGCP is keeping up with its obligations under its franchise," she stated.

The Senate committee on public services is poised to take on the responsibility of conducting a comprehensive review of the NGCP franchise.

The committee is committed to scrutinizing the corporation's operations, identifying areas of improvement, and recommending necessary measures to guarantee the efficient and reliable functioning of power transmission lines.
