Senator Cynthia Villar expressed her delight upon learning that farming is now integrated into the preparation of police officers at the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA). In her capacity as the chairperson of the Senate committee on agriculture and food, Villar commended the alignment of farming skills with the principles and purpose of law enforcement.

As the guest speaker during the PNPA's flag raising ceremony in Silang, Cavite, Senator Villar expressed her gratitude to PNPA Director Police Major General Eric Noble for the invitation. She acknowledged that her strong advocacy for agriculture coincided with the PNPA's belief that police officers equipped with farming skills can significantly enhance the police service within the communities they serve.

Addressing the cadets directly, Senator Villar emphasized that future police officers are likely to be stationed in areas where agriculture plays a critical role. She highlighted the importance of understanding farming and the unique challenges it poses, as this knowledge can help officers connect more deeply with the communities they serve. Building trust and cooperation with these communities is crucial for effective policing.

Moreover, Villar encouraged the cadets to actively contribute to food security and the creation of a safer environment by sharing their farming knowledge, educating local communities, and empowering farmers. She emphasized that communities with consistent access to nutritious food are more stable, peaceful, and less likely to engage in unlawful activities.

Additionally, Senator Villar highlighted the role of farming skills in disaster preparedness and recovery efforts, particularly in rural areas heavily reliant on agriculture. By embracing sustainable farming practices, police officers can extend their role as protectors beyond people to safeguarding the environment.

Furthermore, Villar emphasized that self-sufficiency is a crucial aspect of being a police officer, and their farming skills could prove to be a lifeline during times of crisis.

The integration of farming skills into the training of police cadets reflects a comprehensive approach to education and recognizes the importance of community engagement and sustainability in law enforcement. Senator Villar's advocacy for agriculture aligns with this endeavor, as she continues to champion the significance of farming in various sectors of society.
