Senator Pia S. Cayetano raised concerns about the success of the additional two years of education under the K-12 program during a public hearing on the "Batang Magaling" Act.
Cayetano visited the Tuloy Foundation of Don Bosco, known for its technical vocational education program, and expressed interest in observing the Don Bosco Model as a potential model for enhancing competitiveness and employability of senior high school graduates.
Cayetano pointed out that Don Bosco has been churning out successful tech-voc graduates even before the implementation of senior high school. However, when grade 11 and 12 were added to the basic education program, Don Bosco was left behind as they were not yet accredited for those levels. This raises the question of how successful the additional two years of education have been.
During the hearing, Cayetano urged education officials and concerned agencies to consider the Don Bosco Model, which she said has been a pioneer in tech-voc education and training in the country. She even offered to arrange a visit to Don Bosco for members of the Second Congressional Commission on Education (EDCOM 2).
Cayetano's concerns highlight the need for a thorough evaluation of the K-12 program and its impact on students' competitiveness and employability. The hearing on the "Batang Magaling" Act aims to address these issues and provide solutions to enhance the quality of education in the country.
