Severe Tropical Storm HANNA is on the move, intensifying its force as it progresses westward over the Philippine Sea. The latest update from meteorological authorities indicates its center is located at approximately 1,035 kilometers east of Extreme Northern Luzon.
HANNA boasts sustained winds reaching a maximum of 110 km/h near its center, accompanied by gusts that can surge up to 135 km/h. The storm's central pressure has been recorded at 985 hPa, underscoring its growing potency. The storm is currently making its way westward at a speed of 15 km/h.
The sphere of influence of HANNA extends its reach in the form of strong to storm-force winds, spanning up to 340 kilometers from the center. This has triggered the announcement of various Wind Signal alerts across different regions, while those not under any signal should remain cautious due to the enhanced Southwest Monsoon causing gusty conditions.
Areas prone to these conditions include Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales, Bataan, Aurora, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, and the northern portion of Eastern Visayas.
Experts predict that HANNA will maintain its westward trajectory, eventually leaving the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and drawing closer to the Ryukyu Islands by Saturday (September 2, 2023). Over the course of this movement, HANNA is expected to progressively intensify, with its peak intensity anticipated by early Sunday (September 3, 2023). It's even anticipated that the storm could achieve typhoon status within the next 12 hours, all while remaining well away from the Philippine landmass. As HANNA ventures beyond the confines of the PAR, its path will veer towards the west northwest until Sunday, after which it will shift towards the northwest. The storm is anticipated to continue its journey over the East China Sea, with its final destination predicted to be the east coast of mainland China. Following its anticipated landfall over this region on Sunday, rapid weakening is projected.
Authorities advise residents within the affected areas to stay vigilant and adhere to safety protocols. As the storm continues to evolve, keeping abreast of official updates and taking necessary precautions remains paramount to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents in its potential path.
