In her defense of the 2024 budget for the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), Senator Risa Hontiveros emphasized the pivotal role of the Pabahay Para sa Pamilyang Pilipino (4PH) program in addressing the housing backlog.
During Tuesday's plenary deliberation on November 14, 2023, she revealed that the upcoming fiscal year would see significant allocations under the General Appropriations Act for interest subsidies and credit enhancements, making in-city housing more affordable.
The Senate committee's report on the DHSUD budget for 2024 indicates an increase to P6.235 billion, surpassing the House of Representatives' version by P84.8 million.
Hontiveros justified this augmentation, stating it was specifically requested to fortify the 4PH Program.
Highlighting partnerships with the private sector and local governments, she expressed optimism about ongoing plans, land donations, and the rise of residential buildings.
The Senator asserted that the 4PH program's innovative approach aims to reduce the financial burden on beneficiary families compared to previous government housing initiatives.
