House Speaker Martin Romualdez advised former President Rodrigo Duterte to exercise caution in his public statements, pointing out that he, too, may face scrutiny for his actions during his term.

Romualdez acknowledged that Duterte's platform focused on federalism, and the challenges in implementing this significant change might have contributed to the difficulties faced by the former president. He suggested that Duterte's criticism of current moves for charter amendments could be rooted in his own inability to achieve similar reforms during his presidency.

The Speaker emphasized that Duterte's tenure was marked by promises to address issues such as drugs within a three-month timeframe. However, after six years, the drug problem persists, and Romualdez urged the former president to reflect on his performance.

Citing the proverb "Those who are in glass houses should not cast stones," Romualdez cautioned Duterte against casting aspersions on the current administration without acknowledging his own shortcomings.

Additionally, Romualdez called for respect towards the Duterte family and urged them to extend the same courtesy to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He reminded the public that during the Marcos era, the Duterte family was treated with respect, and he urged them to consider the overwhelming mandate given to President Marcos Jr., emphasizing that the people's will should be respected.
