Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa has called for stiffer penalties for fraternities, sororities, and schools that fail to implement the Anti-hazing Act of 2018. Dela Rosa made the statement during the public hearing of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights on the death of John Matthew Salilig, an Adamson University student who died due to hazing.

According to Dela Rosa, the Anti-hazing Act has been amended several times since it was enacted in 1995, yet hazing continues to persist. He pointed out that the problem lies in the implementation and observance of the law. As long as there are lapses in the enforcement of the law, hazing will continue.
Dela Rosa believes that stiffer penalties should be imposed on schools that fail to implement the law and on fraternities, sororities, and other organizations that continue to engage in hazing practices. This, he said, will serve as a deterrent to those who still practice hazing despite the existing laws against it.

The Anti-hazing Act of 2018 prohibits hazing and imposes penalties on individuals or groups who engage in it. The law also mandates schools to implement anti-hazing policies and programs to prevent hazing incidents from happening.
