The Armed Forces of the Philippines, specifically the 103rd Infantry Brigade, Philippine Army, confirmed the death of Khadafi Mimbesa, also known as "Engineer," during a military operation conducted in Lanao del Sur in January.
Under the leadership of Brigadier General Yegor Rey Barroquillo Jr, the 103rd Brigade executed a successful operation on January 25-26, 2024, resulting in the neutralization of local terrorists and armed members of the Dawlah Islamiyah. These individuals were identified as the perpetrators of the fatal bombing at Mindanao State University (MSU) on December 3, 2023.
The confirmation of Mimbesa's demise was supported by statements from a surrendered high-value individual known as KHATAB, a member of the DI-Maute Group. KHATAB, who surrendered to the 2nd Mechanized Brigade on February 11, corroborated the initial information on the death of the DI-Maute Group Amir and the mastermind behind the MSU bombing.
The decisive military operations also led to the recovery of nine high-powered firearms, one bandolier, four Baofeng radios, and one smartphone.
In response to the successful mission, General Romeo Brawner Jr, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, commended the troops for their dedication in pursuing those responsible for the MSU bombing. He called on remnants of the group to surrender, stating, "Our troops will be relentless in the pursuit of those who will seek to disturb the peace. Take this as an invitation and a call to surrender now and avoid the same fate as your dead comrades."
"The Armed Forces of the Philippines will always be a catalyst for peace and assures the public of the military's unwavering commitment to safeguarding peace and security in Mindanao and across the country," added the Chief of Staff. The successful operation marks a significant step towards ensuring the safety and security of the region.
