Super Typhoon Egay Maintains Strength As It Threatens Northern Luzon

Super Typhoon Egay remains a formidable force as it continues its path towards Northern Luzon, posing a significant threat to life and property in the region. As of 4:00 PM, the center of the eye of Super Typhoon Egay was located approximately 190 km east of Aparri, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gusts reaching up to 230 km/h. The central pressure of the typhoon was recorded at 925 hPa, signifying its strength and intensity.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has issued various Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) to warn the public about the potential impacts of the approaching typhoon.
TCWS No. 5 is in effect for the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands, including Camiguin Island. This signal indicates a threat of typhoon-force winds with wind speeds reaching up to 185 km/h. The areas covered by this signal are likely to experience an extreme threat to life and property. TCWS No. 4 covers the northern portion of Cagayan, including Santa Ana, Gonzaga, Claveria, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Camalaniugan, and Santa Praxedes, as well as the rest of Babuyan Islands. These areas are expected to face significant to severe threats from typhoon-force winds, with wind speeds ranging from 118 to 184 km/h.
TCWS No. 3 includes the northeastern portion of Isabela, the rest of Cagayan, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, the northern portion of Kalinga, Batanes, and the northern portion of Abra. Storm-force winds with wind speeds ranging from 89 to 117 km/h pose a moderate to significant threat to life and property in these areas.
TCWS No. 2 extends its coverage to the rest of Isabela, the northern and central portions of Aurora, Quirino, the rest of Kalinga, northeastern portion of Nueva Vizcaya, Ilocos Sur, the rest of Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, and the northern portion of Benguet and La Union. Gale-force winds with wind speeds ranging from 62 to 88 km/h may pose minor to moderate threats to life and property in these regions.
TCWS No. 1 has been hoisted over Luzon, including Quezon, Polillo Islands, the rest of Aurora, the rest of Nueva Vizcaya, the rest of Benguet, the rest of La Union, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Zambales, Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan, Cavite, Metro Manila, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, and Marinduque. Strong winds with speeds ranging from 39 to 61 km/h may present minimal to minor threats to life and property.
PAGASA also issued Heavy Rainfall Warnings for several areas in Northern Luzon, including the Babuyan Group of Islands and Cagayan, as well as Apayao and Isabela. Flooding and landslides are threatening flood and landslide-prone areas in these regions.
