Manila, Philippines - The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has released a 24-hour public weather forecast for the country, effective from 4:00 PM, 27 May 2023. The forecast provides vital information on weather conditions and potential hazards in different regions.

The center of the eye of Super Typhoon "BETTY" (locally named "MAWAR") was estimated to be 1,055 kilometers east of Central Luzon at 3:00 PM today. With maximum sustained winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 230 km/h, the typhoon is moving westward at a speed of 25 km/h. A southwesterly windflow is affecting the western sections of Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao due to the typhoon's influence.

For the areas of Palawan, Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga, expect cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. These weather conditions are caused by the southwesterly windflow and the trough of Super Typhoon "BETTY." Residents in these areas should be cautious as moderate to heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides.

In Metro Manila and the rest of the country, partly cloudy to cloudy skies are expected with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. These localized thunderstorms are caused by the southwesterly windflow. Although the rain showers may be isolated, severe thunderstorms could potentially lead to flash floods or landslides. Therefore, residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant during such weather conditions.
PAGASA has also provided a forecast of wind and coastal water conditions for various regions:
The eastern section of Luzon: Strong winds blowing from the northeast to northwest are expected, accompanied by rough coastal waters with wave heights ranging from 2.8 to 4.5 meters.
Palawan and the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao: Moderate to strong winds from the west to southwest are anticipated, with coastal waters ranging from moderate to rough, and wave heights varying from 1.2 to 4.0 meters.
The rest of Luzon: Light to moderate winds blowing from the northeast to northwest are forecasted. Coastal waters will be slight to moderate, with wave heights ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters.
The rest of the country: Light to moderate winds are expected from the west to southwest, with coastal waters ranging from slight to moderate, and wave heights varying from 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

PAGASA advises fishermen and those with small seacraft not to venture into the sea in areas affected by the typhoon and to take precautionary measures against possible storm surges.
The weather agency urges the public to stay updated with the latest weather information and follow the guidance and warnings issued by local authorities and disaster management agencies.
