QCPD Director Police Brigadier General Nicolas D Torre III announced a significant breakthrough in the investigation of the Abiad Family shooting incident that occurred on June 29, 2023. During a press conference held on July 11, 2023, he revealed that one of the gunmen involved in the tragic incident had been apprehended.

The suspect, identified as Eduardo Almario Legazpi II, a 31-year-old resident of Alabang, Muntinlupa City, was arrested on July 7, 2023, following an intensive week-long manhunt operation. The operation was carried out by a joint team of operatives from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU), District Anti Carnapping Unit (DACU), District Intelligence Division (DID), and District Special Operations Unit (DSOU).

The breakthrough in the case came after the investigative team meticulously reviewed CCTV footage obtained from various locations, including OKADA, where the Abiad Family had been prior to the shooting incident. The footage captured a clear image of Almario, one of the gunmen. By analyzing the footage, the investigators were able to trace the escape route of the suspects, who had fled the crime scene in a Toyota Vios and a MIO motorcycle. The suspects had taken the Quezon Avenue Skyway and exited at San Pedro, Laguna, before heading to Magsaysay Road, Muntinlupa City.

With this vital information in hand, the operatives collaborated with the Southern Police District and Police Regional Office (PRO-4A) and proceeded to Muntinlupa City. They showed Almario's picture to a confidential informant who led them to his residence, as well as his cohorts, in Brgy. Ilaya, Alabang. This ultimately resulted in Almario's arrest.

During the arrest, law enforcement officials recovered several items from Almario, including a caliber .45 pistol, seven live ammunition, a belt bag, and a Hand Frag M26A1 grenade. He was subsequently taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU).
Almario now faces charges for violations of R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act and R.A. 9516 or the Unlawful Possession of Firearms, Ammunition, and Explosives. The cases will be filed before the Muntinlupa City Prosecutor's Office.

Additionally, charges of Murder and three counts of Frustrated Murder will be filed against Almario at the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office in connection with the Abiad Family shooting incident.

While Almario's arrest is a significant development, the authorities continue their relentless efforts in pursuing the case and are conducting a continuous manhunt operation to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects.
