The Philippine Coast Guard said the municipality of Pola will create TASK FORCE POLA to pursue appropriate legal actions against the owner, operator, or insurer of MT PRINCESS EMPRESS in proper courts or administrative agencies for the damages they incurred.
In addition, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) conducted an assessment and fuel fingerprinting at the affected coastal barangays to determine the extent of the damage caused by the oil spill.
Meanwhile, concerned agencies discussed the simultaneous coastal clean-up on Friday, March 10 2023, with residents and local fishermen set to assist in the operations. The Department of Health (DOH) has required all participants to wear full-face respirators to uphold public safety, and toxicologists will also be present during the initiative.
The M/Tug TITAN-1 and M/Tug LIDAGAT, meanwhile, have conducted dispersant application, and containment and recovery operations to minimize the spread of the oil spill.
As for the shoreline clean-up, the team in Pola Oriental Mindoro observed minimal traces and patches of oil along the shorelines, with a three-kilometer length area covered. They also noted patches of oil floating on the surface of the water.
The PCG will continue to update the public on the progress of the oil spill response operations in Oriental Mindoro.
