Temporary Fare Increase For PUJs To Take Effect Starting Oct. 8, 2023
FILE
Starting this coming Sunday, October 8, 2023, passengers riding Traditional Public Utility Jeepneys (TPUJ) will experience a temporary fare hike, with the fare set at thirteen pesos (P13.00), while passengers of Modern Public Utility Jeepneys (MPUJ) will be charged fifteen pesos (P15.00) nationwide.

This fare adjustment follows the approval by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) in response to requests from several transport groups to raise jeepney fares, allowing drivers to cope with their livelihood amidst the high prices of petroleum products.

The LTFRB emphasized that this provisional fare increase is temporary, coinciding with the continuous rise in petroleum prices, and the pending decision on the five-peso (P5.00) fare hike proposed by some transport groups.

In connection with this, the agency clarified that public utility jeeps no longer need to display fare matrices, as only the minimum fare will be increased by one peso (P1.00), leaving subsequent kilometers unaffected.

Additionally, the agency reminds the public that the 20% discount for senior citizens, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and students must still be implemented, ensuring that these groups continue to enjoy reduced fares despite the temporary fare adjustment.
