Thousands Of Farmers Affected By Typhoon 'EGAY'

The impact of Typhoon "EGAY" on the agri-fisheries sector has been assessed by the Department of Agriculture's (DA) Regional Field Offices (RFOs). Reports indicate that the total damage and losses amount to PhP 53.1 million, affecting 2,303 farmers. The losses include 1,871 metric tons (MT) of agricultural produce and 3,185 hectares of agricultural areas. The affected commodities include rice, corn, livestock, and poultry. The reported values are still subject to validation.

The Department of Agriculture (DA) is actively monitoring the effects of Typhoon "EGAY" and conducting assessments of the damage and losses incurred in the agri-fisheries sector. The DA maintains close coordination with concerned National Government Agencies (NGAs), Local Government Units (LGUs), and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM)-related offices to assess the impacts and allocate necessary resources for interventions and assistance.

The DA has made the following assistance available for distribution to affected farmers and fishers:
1. Rice, corn, and assorted vegetable seeds;
2. Drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry;
3. Fingerlings assistance to affected fisherfolk from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR);
4. Survival and Recovery (SURE) Loan Program from the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC) with a loanable amount of up to PhP 25,000, payable in three years at zero interest; and
5. Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.
