Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta is scheduled to visit the Philippines on November 10, Friday, in a bid to enhance the existing bilateral relations between the two nations.

The visit aims to foster cooperation in various fields such as technical, political, educational, and economic partnerships.

During his stay, President Ramos-Horta will engage in discussions with key Philippine government agencies, including the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The meetings are expected to explore avenues for collaboration and strengthen the ties between the two countries.

This diplomatic initiative follows a bilateral meeting that took place on the sidelines of the 42nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in Indonesia last May.

In that meeting, Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. reiterated the Philippines' unwavering support for Timor-Leste's efforts to attain full membership in the ASEAN regional bloc.

"In the Philippines, you have a partner. We have always been supportive," President Marcos affirmed, addressing Timor-Leste Prime Minister Taur Matan Ruak during their discussions at the 42nd ASEAN Summit.

President Marcos expressed his satisfaction with Timor-Leste's progress towards democracy and its aspiration to become an ASEAN member state.

Timor-Leste participated in the 42nd ASEAN Summit as an observer, marking a significant milestone in its journey toward becoming a democratic nation and, eventually, a full-fledged member of the regional bloc.
