Pura Luka Vega's controversial performance of the "Ama Namin" prayer continues to stir heated debates and differing opinions in the Philippines. In a recent interview, both Father Jerome Ceciliano and Rep. Geraldine Roman expressed their perspectives on the matter.

Father Jerome Ceciliano, a Catholic priest, strongly condemned the performance, emphasizing that it was disrespectful to the religion and the sentiments of Catholics. He emphasized that sacred elements should only be used for sacred purposes and that using them for entertainment diminishes their sanctity. Father Ceciliano urged the public to be prudent in their actions, particularly when dealing with sacred objects and elements of faith, emphasizing the importance of solemnity, respect, and the preservation of a holy atmosphere.

On the other hand, Pura Luka Vega defended her performance in the interview. She acknowledged that her act might have made people uncomfortable and apologized for any unintended offense caused. However, she stood firm in her belief that her performance was a form of healing and self-expression for her as a queer person who felt excluded within the Catholic Church. She explained that her intention was to reconcile her faith with her queerness and convey a message through entertainment.

Pura Luka Vega also responded to criticisms by mentioning the hate messages and unfair judgments she had received, stating that she felt unfairly persecuted. She emphasized that her performance aimed to honor the Catholic faith in her own way and hoped that people would understand the deeper meaning behind her art. While she expressed her willingness to apologize for making others uncomfortable, she made it clear that she would not apologize for her coping mechanism or her way of expressing her Catholicism as a queer individual.

In response to Pura's statements, Rep. Geraldine Roman expressed her disappointment with Pura's actions, emphasizing that all actions have consequences. She criticized Pura for disrespecting the religious feelings of others and highlighted the need for respect and understanding in society. Rep. Roman also cautioned against using the "gender card" to justify actions that offend others, noting that it could negatively impact the broader LGBT community's fight for respect and equality.

Rep. Roman suggested that instead of resorting to such performances, individuals dealing with personal issues within the Catholic Church should seek more compassionate and understanding priests to discuss their concerns. She urged Pura and others to consider the consequences of their actions, highlighting that tampering with what is sacred or dear to people is hurtful and may even have legal repercussions.
