Transparent And Peaceful Barangay Elections Sought In Assembly

The Nationwide Multi-Sectoral Peace Assembly was held today October 17,2023, paving the way for a transparent and peaceful Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in 2023.

The event brought together guests, officials from various government agencies, and community leaders.

The Guest of Honor and Speaker, COMELEC Commissioner In-charge of BSKE 2023, Atty. Rey E. Bulay bared his vision for transparent and honest elections.

"Today's event showcases the importance of peace in our democratic processes. Peace and democracy are two sides of the same coin. Democracy thrives in peace; as peace is maintained, there is democracy. Peace is not a passive state of being. It is a conscious choice, a shared commitment, a relentless pursuit," Bulay emphasized.

The national assembly was attended by high-ranking officials representing various government agencies pivotal to the success of the upcoming elections. Among them were the Philippine Coast Guard, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Transportation (DOTr), Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Department of Education (DepED), Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), and Faith-based groups.

Attendees also participated in the "Signing of the Pledge of Commitment," in which officials from various government offices, community leaders, and representatives from the private sector pledged to uphold integrity, honesty, fairness, justice, and prudence for the success of BSKE 2023.
