MANILA - As of 3:00 AM today, Tropical Cyclone Mawar (Typhoon 2302) has been located approximately 2,330 kilometers east of Mindanao at coordinates 8.3°N and 147.5°E. With maximum sustained winds of 130 km/h near the center and gustiness reaching up to 160 km/h, the typhoon is currently moving in a west-northwestward direction at a speed of 15 km/h.

According to the latest forecast from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the effects of Typhoon Mawar are expected to be felt in several areas of the country. Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms, which may lead to possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains. These weather conditions are caused by the southwesterly windflow affecting the region.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country can expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms. These conditions are attributed to both the southwesterly windflow and localized thunderstorms. Similar to the aforementioned areas, flash floods or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.

Pagasa weather specialist, Obet Badrina, highlighted the potential danger of Typhoon Mawar, saying, "This typhoon we are monitoring, Mawar, can potentially become a super typhoon, especially since it is over the open sea."

PAGASA will continue to closely monitor the movement and development of Typhoon Mawar, providing timely updates and necessary warnings to help mitigate the potential impacts of the tropical cyclone on the Philippines.
