Tropical Depression "Chedeng" slightly intensifies as it meanders over the Philippine Sea east of Eastern Visayas. As of 4:00 PM, the center of Tropical Depression Chedeng was estimated at 1,150 km East of Southeastern Luzon (12.9°N, 134.8°E). It has maximum sustained winds of 55 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 70 km/h, and a central pressure of 1002 hPa. The depression is currently almost stationary.

The extent of tropical cyclone winds extends outwards up to 360 km from the center. At this time, no tropical cyclone wind signals are hoisted.

In terms of hazards affecting land areas, Tropical Depression Chedeng is unlikely to directly bring heavy rainfall over any portion of the country in the next 3 to 5 days. However, the forecast scenario for this tropical cyclone may enhance the Southwest Monsoon, which could result in changes to the timing and intensity of monsoon rains, especially in the western portion of the country. The public is advised to stay updated on the possible enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon and watch out for a Weather Advisory from PAGASA regarding increasing chances of heavy monsoon rainfall within the next three days.

As of now, the hoisting of Wind Signals in anticipation of tropical cyclone severe winds is unlikely. The Southwest Monsoon may be strengthened due to Chedeng, but intermittent wind gusts resulting from the monsoon winds may still change based on the forecast movement and intensity of Chedeng and its interaction with other weather systems. The public is advised to stay vigilant and monitor for updates regarding the possible enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon.

Regarding hazards affecting coastal waters, Chedeng is not expected to cause rough sea conditions over the coastal waters of the country in the next 24 hours.

The track and intensity outlook for Chedeng indicate that it will continue to consolidate and intensify. It is forecasted to gradually accelerate and move generally northwestward in the next 24 hours, then turn west northwestward on Thursday. By Friday, the tropical cyclone will begin turning towards the northwest and then to the north during the weekend. Throughout the forecast period, Chedeng will remain far from the Philippine landmass.

Due to favorable environmental conditions, Chedeng is forecasted to intensify in the next 4 days and may be upgraded to a tropical storm category within the next 12 hours. It could potentially reach typhoon category by Thursday and reach its peak intensity on Friday or during the weekend while over the Philippine Sea east of Northern Luzon.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to protect life and property. Individuals living in areas identified as highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards should follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. To stay informed about heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather information specific to your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
