Tropical Depression INENG Enhances Southwest Monsoon, Minimal Impact Expected

Tropical Depression INENG, currently situated east of Extreme Northern Luzon, is exerting a slight influence on the Southwest Monsoon, jointly with Tropical Storm HAIKUI, in the Philippine region. While neither storm directly threatens the country, the enhanced monsoon is set to bring intermittent to monsoon rains over the western regions of Luzon in the coming three days.

INENG is projected to follow a north-northeastward path, away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), while HAIKUI is expected to weaken into a remnant low over mainland China. Consequently, meteorologists anticipate a weakening of the Southwest Monsoon over the week.

Tropical Depression INENG, despite not directly affecting the Philippines, is causing gusty conditions in various areas, especially in coastal and upland/mountainous regions. These areas include Batanes, Ilocos Provinces, the western portion of Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Kalayaan Islands, Lubang Island, and Romblon today (September 5,2023). Tomorrow (September 6,2023), Batanes and Ilocos Provinces are expected to experience these gusty conditions.

INENG is unlikely to induce rough sea conditions directly along the country's seaboard during the forecast period. However, the enhanced Southwest Monsoon is prompting a Gale Warning for the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the western seaboard of Central Luzon, the western and southern seaboards of Southern Luzon, and the western seaboard of Visayas. Civilian maritime activities in these areas, such as sea travel, may be disrupted due to hazardous sea conditions.

As of now, INENG's center is estimated to be 975 km East of Extreme Northern Luzon, with maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gusts of up to 55 km/h. The forecast predicts the following positions:
• Sep 05, 2023 08:00 PM: 1,070 km East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon
• Sep 06, 2023 08:00 AM: 1,290 km East Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon (OUTSIDE PAR)
• Sep 06, 2023 08:00 PM: 1,620 km Northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon (OUTSIDE PAR)

No Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal is currently in effect. Residents and authorities are advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and exercise caution in affected areas.
