At 8:00 AM today, meteorological authorities have confirmed the formation of Tropical Depression #ChedengPH. The weather disturbance originated from the Low Pressure Area located east of Eastern Visayas, gaining strength and intensifying into a tropical depression.

At 11:00 AM, the center of Tropical Depression Chedeng was estimated to be located at approximately 1,170 kilometers east of Central Luzon, with coordinates 16.4°N and 133.1°E.
The depression is exhibiting maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center, with gustiness of up to 55 kilometers per hour. The central pressure is measured at 1004 hPa. The system is currently almost stationary.

The extent of tropical cyclone winds extends outward up to 360 kilometers from the center. However, no Tropical Cyclone Wind Signals (TCWS) have been hoisted at this time.
Regarding the hazards affecting land areas, Tropical Depression Chedeng is expected to remain far from the Philippine landmass over the next 3 to 5 days, which means it is unlikely to directly bring heavy rainfall to any portion of the country.

However, there is a possibility of the Southwest Monsoon being enhanced due to the forecast scenario of this tropical cyclone. The areas, timing, and intensity of monsoon rains, particularly in the western portion of the country, may still change depending on the movement and intensity of Chedeng and its interaction with other weather systems. PAGASA advises the public to continue monitoring for updates on the possible enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon. A Weather Advisory will be issued should there be an increasing chance of heavy rainfall due to the monsoon within the next three days.

While severe winds are not expected from Tropical Depression Chedeng, occasional wind gusts may occur due to the enhanced monsoon winds. The potential for severe winds and the hoisting of Wind Signals may change depending on the movement and intensity of Chedeng and its interaction with other weather systems. The public is advised to stay updated regarding the possible enhancement of the Southwest Monsoon.

As for coastal waters, rough sea conditions are unlikely to be caused by Tropical Depression Chedeng within the next 24 hours.

In terms of the track and intensity outlook, Chedeng is forecasted to consolidate and intensify. It is expected to gradually accelerate and move northwestward today before turning west northwestward tomorrow. The west northwestward movement will be maintained until Thursday, after which the tropical cyclone will start turning towards the northwest on Friday and eventually to the north during the weekend. Throughout the forecast period, Chedeng will remain far from the Philippine landmass.

Favorable environmental conditions suggest that Chedeng will intensify over the next four days and may be upgraded to tropical storm category by tomorrow. It has the potential to reach typhoon category by Thursday and may reach its peak intensity during the weekend while located over the Philippine Sea east of Northern Luzon.

The public and disaster risk reduction and management offices concerned are advised to take all necessary measures to ensure the protection of life and property. Individuals residing in areas highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. For specific information on heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and severe weather updates in your area, please monitor products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
