Tropical storm "Khanun" continues to maintain its strength as it accelerates in a north northwestward direction outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). As of 10:00 AM today (July 28,2023), the storm's center was located approximately 1,345 km East of Eastern Visayas at coordinates 12.6°N and 137.0°E.

Khanun currently boasts maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h near its center, with gusts of up to 80 km/h and a central pressure of 1000 hPa. The storm is steadily moving at a speed of 25 km/h in a north northwestward path over the Philippine Sea.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts that Khanun will maintain its north northwestward trajectory until Sunday afternoon, still outside the PAR. However, there are indications that the tropical cyclone may enter the PAR region between late tomorrow evening and Sunday morning. Once it enters the PAR, the storm will be locally named "Falcon."

PAGASA also warns that a west northwestward or northwestward turn may occur on late Sunday or early Monday while Khanun is within the PAR. There is a possibility of shifts in the track forecast as the storm's circulation further consolidates.

Over the next five days, Khanun is projected to continuously intensify. It is expected to upgrade to typhoon status late tomorrow evening or on Sunday early morning and is forecasted to reach its peak intensity by late Monday or early Tuesday.

Authorities advise residents in the potential path of Khanun to stay vigilant and monitor updates from PAGASA and local disaster management agencies. Preparations should be made to ensure safety and readiness in case the storm enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
